چکیده

Results In November 2010, a first case of VRE was detected in a urine culture. The investigation identified 3 secondary cases in roommates (asymptomatic carriage). A second clinical case was detected in January 2011. Four secondary cases were identified. Both index cases were previously hospitalized in the same regional hospital. All patients transferred from the regional hospital were screened for VRE. In addition, weekly screening was initiated in patients hospitalized in the epidemic ward. In total, from November 2010 to March 2011, 31 VRE cases were identified: 4 in clinical specimens (urine 2, wound 2) and 27 in screening swabs. One patient presented a VRE bacteremia. Molecular analysis showed that all isolates except 2 had the same PFGE pattern. The 2 different strains had only a variation of 1 to 2 bands and were probably related to the outbreak. Infection control measures (contact isolation of carriers and roommates, quarantine of the epdiemic ward and reinforcement of environment disinfection) were implemented.

Nosocomial spread of Enterococcus faecium resistant to vancomycin and linezolid in a tertiary care medical center.

In May 2004 our institution encountered its first clinical isolate of linezolid-resistant, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (LRVRE). Between October 2004 and July 2005, 40 patients from whom LRVRE organisms were recovered in clinical specimens were characterized. Epidemiologic investigation and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis patterns indicated a clonal outbreak related to nosocomial ...

Global Spread of Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium from Distinct Nosocomial Genetic Complex

Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) have caused hospital outbreaks worldwide, and the vancomycin-resistance gene (vanA) has crossed genus boundaries to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Spread of VRE, therefore, represents an immediate threat for patient care and creates a reservoir of mobile resistance genes for other, more virulent pathogens. Evolutionary genetics, population st...

First outbreak of vancomycin-resistant enterococci in a tertiary hospital in Turkey.

Twenty multidrug-resistant vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium strains of the VanA phenotype were isolated over a 1 year period from five patients in the intensive care unit at the University Hospital of Antalya, Turkey. Molecular investigation showed that these strains belonged to five different pulsotypes and that the vanA gene was carried by a Tn1546-like transposon inserted onto a sel...

Neonatal septicaemia caused by vancomycin resistant enterococcus faecium-a case report.

Neonatal bacterial sepsis is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in neonates. 10% cases of neonatal bacteraemia and septicaemia are caused by Enterococci. The increasing incidence of Vancomycin resistant enterococci (VRE) is of particular concern because of limited treatment options and increased mortality. We report here a case of neonatal sepsis in a premature baby caused by va...

First vancomycin-resistant blood isolate of Enterococcus faecium in a children's hospital and molecular analysis of the mechanism of resistance.

The first clinical isolate of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus spp. in Hacettepe University Children's Hospital was isolated from a blood culture of a patient hospitalized in the intensive care unit. He had been on vancomycin therapy for the last four months for consecutive pneumoniae and sepsis. The isolate was identified as Enterococcus faecium (E. faecium) and minimal inhibitor concentratio...
